December 2011

Several years ago I stepped into the mall with my mom and my baby daughter all set to clear off my gift list. My mom turned to me and said “I don’t know what to get you so pick something and I’ll pay for it”. In any other month that would be awesome but somehow it seemed anti-Christmas to me. She also didn’t know what to get for the secret Santa exchange with our extended family either and planned to get a gift certificate. To top it off, I was feeling positively Grinchy because I had no clue what to get for anybody.

The solution came to me all at once; I said “hey mom, you know what? I don’t want you to buy me anything and I will return the favor”. I thought she’d get mad but she actually looked relieved and agreed. And then I took it a step further and put an end to our ‘secret Santa’ exchange, which caused some grumbling but had lost it’s purpose when everyone started buying gift cards for each other. So if you are getting me a $50 gift card, and I am getting you a $50 gift card, what ‘gift’ are we actually getting each other?

I kind of wish that Wag Jag had been around back then. I could buy affordable and unique gifts online, give a voucher that was redeemable for a real item which, unlike a gift card, I took the time to choose and never have to set foot in the mall. Good bye Mrs. Grinch!

This year they have launched a Holiday Gift Shoppe of deals that are in place until Christmas. So even forgetful spouses have a place to go to find a fabulous last minute gift, like say maybe some Nicole Lauren Earrings or a sapphire necklace. Hint Hint, Nudge Nudge…

It’s kind of a cool place to find something different, at a good price and the size will always be right. Check it out!
