The Rothney Astrophysical Observatory (RAO) holds periodic evening open houses and public events. If the sky is cloudy, they cannot operate the telescopes, so check the website for sky conditions and updates before heading out.

August 11, 2023; 7:30 – 9:30 pm: Conserving the Wilderness of Night Sky in Alberta
Join Dark-Sky expert Dr. John Barentine at the U of C for an educational exploration of light pollution. This FREE and family-friendly public event is in association with ALAN2023, the 8th International Conference on light pollution, hosted by the University of Calgary and the Calgary Centre of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada. Free telescope sky viewing will be provided after this event, weather permitting. Telescope access will be easiest if people park on the University campus in the Arts Parkade.
