Milky Way Nights are an opportunity for the public to observe the dark night sky alongside U of C researchers.

See astronomers in their natural habitat, under dark moonless skies. The dark sky conditions are perfect for viewing planetary nebula, globular clusters and distant galaxies. Each evening will include a sky tour outside on the viewing terrace, pointing out some of the highlights of the summer sky.

Milky Way Nights are special evenings at the observatory; there is no formal talk or presentation because the event is dedicated to observing with telescopes.

Check the RAO website for up-to-date weather conditions before heading out for this event. Visitors are advised to dress for the weather and bring mosquito repellent and a flashlight (preferably a flashlight with a red filter).

The entrance fee to Milky Way Nights is $10 (plus taxes and fees) and you can get your tickets here. You cannot purchase tickets at the door and kids 7 and younger don’t need a ticket.
