Renovation News 2022:

Glenbow Museum has been closed for renovations, but they will be opening a satellite location at The Edison, in March 2022. This new location will host Glenbow’s feature exhibition program until Glenbow’s building renovation is complete in 2024. The new location is just a block away from the museum’s main building and admission will be free!

They will open the new satellite space with all Alberta and City of Calgary COVID-19 public health guidelines in place to ensure they can welcome in-person visitors safely. The first exhibition in Glenbow’s new location is Uninvited: Canadian Women Artists in the Modern Moment, a landmark exhibition of more than 200 works of art by a generation of extraordinary women painters, photographers, sculptors, architects, and filmmakers from a century ago — pioneers who opened new frontiers for women artists in Canada – as well as works made by their Indigenous female contemporaries working in traditional media, for a cross-country snapshot of female creativity in the dynamic modern moment of the early 20th century.

Satellite Location: The Edison, at 150 9th Avenue SW, Calgary, AB

Glenbow is Calgary’s premier institution to learn about both art and cultural history. Glenbow’s vision is simply for more people to experience art and culture more often. The facility showcases world-renowned travelling and permanent exhibitions that are meaningful to many diverse groups in our community and boasts the largest art collection in Western Canada.

Glenbow also tells the story of Southern Alberta and the West to thousands of visitors to our city each year through permanent exhibitions on our third floor. Their library and archives is Canada’s largest non-governmental archival repository. It is a major research centre for historians, writers, students, genealogists, filmmakers and media.

The Glenbow Shop offers visitors a unique retail experience while providing a viable revenue stream for the institution. Glenbow also serves as a rental facility for many corporate and private functions, offering a 210-seat theatre, meeting rooms and three gallery floors as event space. The museum is a member-based, not-for-profit, non-governmental arts and culture organization located in the heart of Calgary’s cultural district.
