Day Trips from Calgary
Discovery Wildlife Park has over 90 acres of open parkland and is home to 38 species of animals including alligators, monkeys, jaguars, lions and camels to name a few.
The native animals were ophans and were brought by Fish and Wildlife. The exotic animals have come from zoo closures.

The Country Drive is a collection of farm operations between Calgary and Red Deer that welcome visitors to experience the sights and sounds of the country.
The members include u-picks, farm stores, garden centres, restaurants, farmer's markets and more. Many offer family entertainment, restaurants or picnic areas.

Head south on Highway 22 along some of the most beautiful countryside in Alberta. The Cowboy Trail stretches 700 kilometeres, so go for as long or as short a drive as you'd like. There are many neat places to stop along the way for treats and adventures!

The Bar U Ranch is one of the most famous ranches in the area and a great destination for a daytrip, (or as a stop along the Cowboy Trail) The site commemorates the history and importance of ranching in Canada.

Located NW of Fort Macleod, Head Smashed In Buffalo Jump is one of the world's oldest, largest and best preserved buffalo jump's. This unique site, less than 2 hours from Calgary, is educational as well as fun!
The Royal Tyrrell Museum in Drumheller boasts an extensive collection of dinosaur fossils and exhibits on prehistoric life. Where else can your child dig for dinosaur bones and actually find them? They offer neat exhibits and activities for kids and grown ups alike. While you are in the area, stop by Horseshoe Canyon which is a great place to hike.
Torrington's Gopher Hole Museum
Located an hour north of Calgary, the Gopher Hole Museum has a very eclectic collection of stuffed gophers. Apparently Torrington has an alarmingly large number of gophers so the town turned them into a tourist attraction. Quite successfully it has drawn thousands of tourists from all over the world to their unusual displays since opening in 1996. From gopher musicians to a gopher R.C.M.P. you'll find it all at this strange little stop.
