Not sure whether you should buy a guest pass for the Calgary Zoo? I would tell you to definitely do it! In fact we always get a guest pass rather than one specifically for my husband so that anyone can come along on our zoo adventures. It is a great way to get together with friends and family. And when you have out of town visitors, you can show them one of Calgary’s best attractions and keep the kiddies occupied for the day.
I think it is so fabulous that the penguins continue to draw line ups over the summer even on week days. It really shows that the Calgary Zoo is a world class facility with so much to offer visitors. I am sure the line ups will continue on sunny weekends for a few more months so to avoid them go early, but typically they are not longer than 45 minutes these days anyway. Since our friends hadn’t been yet and were visiting from Edmonton we definitely had to wait in line so they could have a close encounter of the penguin kind!
And weren’t we lucky! We found out that two of the penguins have found love and become a pair. They have been busily building a nest for a few weeks, making sure each stone is perfect. Next time you are at Penguin Plunge take a look out for the growing nest, I wonder how long it will be before we start to see chicks at the Zoo!
We had a really great day at the zoo and saw tonnes of interactive carts. It is so cool to see the kids connect with animals up close. I remember always feeling frustrated with visits as a kid that you could never pet the animal, but now you can touch a bison hoof, hold a bear claw or dance like a crane. Add the imagination of a child and you truly have an unmatched experience at the Calgary Zoo!
We also had the opportunity to use a few of the coupons in Grady’s membership booklet. We got 2 for one cream cones and cotton candy. Then we also stopped in at the gift shop where Grady picked out a penguin to get stuffed at 50% on his birthday and everyone went home happy with an extra memory from the zoo as Engage and Inspire memberships get you 10% off at the gift shop.
