Complain BraggingI spent the weekend out of town with some family and I learned a new term I think is hysterical. It is "complain bragging". My sister-in-law was sharing how someone posted cute pictures of their kid falling asleep in unusual places on Facebook. Someone commented, "oh that is so cute, my kids never did that, I guess they were just too alert." All our eyebrows raised at this catty comment and my brother-in-law said, "hmm that sounds like complain bragging to me." We spent the next hour coming up with all kinds of examples of complain bragging we hear. Some of my favorites are:
"My house takes so long to clean. I am so exhausted. It is just too big."
"I have no clothes that fit anymore, I am losing so much weight."
"Oh no, this new raise has now put me in the next tax bracket."
We ended up spending the weekend calling people on their complain bragging. It was quite entertaining until I got caught doing it. I have a little complaint that I will tell everyone who will listen. If you are my friend, you have heard me say it. Here it goes, "I have to go and buy Evan another new pair of shoes, his feet are just getting so big." Yes, it is complain bragging. I admit it. Although guilty of doing it myself, I am completely amused by the concept of complain bragging and I want to hear more complain bragging stories.
