Movie in the Park

Movie in the Park, Wall-E

Last night our family saw Wall-E at the Movie in the Park hosted by the Glenbrook Community. It was our first Movie in the Park experience and now I am disappointed we did not do one of these earlier in the summer.

We have had Movie in the Park on our website for months and it was one of those things we knew we could do but just never got around to doing it. The reason we finally got around to going was because the movie being featured was Wall-E. My husband and I took our son when it was in the theatres and Evan just LOVED it! He has been asking to see it for months now and it is difficult to explain to a two year old that has all his favorite Treehouse programs recorded on PVR that he can't watch Wall-E again until it comes out on DVD.

When I got the email from Movie in the Park that Wall-E would be the feature film I knew we had to go. Movie in the Park is much more than just a movie. There was a bouncy castle for the little ones and Guitar Hero for the older ones. There was a magician doing some magic tricks and a couple of hilarious hosts bribing people with beef jerky prizes to embarrass themselves "on-stage" by participating in hoola-hoop competitions and chicken dancing. It was truly entertaining for those of us cuddled up in our blankets waiting for it to get dark enough for the movie to start.

The movie finally started around 8:30 and everyone pulled up their blankets and camping chairs. There was a vendor set up selling popcorn, pop and other snacks for those of us incapable of watching a movie without popcorn. The screen was huge and the sound quality was amazing. We were not disappointed. There was an awesome sense of community as families with small kids, couples, teenagers, seniors and pets came together for an enjoyable evening. This will definately become a regular outing for our family (well maybe when the weather warms up again).
